What's Up Wednesday — How Was What's Up Wednesday Born?

Wednesday, January 13, 2016

I've scoured the internet and I can't really figure out how What's Up Wednesday was born.  The best I can put together is Lingo LarsonMix & Match FamilyPinterest Told Me To •  started a link up on the last Wednesday of the month.  Their link up looks something like this.

Link up with  me, Sheaffer & Shay the LAST Wednesday of each month so
we can read about What's Up with YOU!

The other school of  thought is Jamie Morrow and her sister Erin Funk wanted a way to touch base with their writing friends every week so What's Up Wednesday was born.  Their version of What''s Up Wednesday looks something like this.

What's Up Wednesday
My sister, Erin, and I wanted a brief way to touch base with our writing friends every week, even when things got really busy and we felt otherwise unmotivated to blog. So What’s Up Wednesday was born, intended to be a weekly blog hop with other folks on this writing journey. With that aim in mind, we would encourage you to visit a few other WUW blogs each week, get to know some other writers, and spread some writerly encouragement around. (Something we ALL need, right?)

Here are the headings:
1. WHAT I'M READING
2. WHAT I'M WRITING (+ A WRITING GOAL)*
3. WHAT WORKS FOR ME**
4. WHAT ELSE IS NEW

* We have a new addition to the WRITING section of WUW: goal-setting. By including one writing-related goal each week, we're hoping to up the ante on the accountability front. Your writing goal can be whatever you want it to be, not just relating to word count. (Though, if that works for you, great!) Short, sweet, and focused is the idea here. Happy goal-setting!

**If you want to know what we mean by this, check out this post for details. (It's too wordy to include here lol.)

Remember to leave your link in the widget (
POSTED EVERY WEDNESDAY***
) so others can swing by and find your post. And similarly, don’t forget to link back here in your post so others who want to participate will know where to sign up.

***This is a bloghop that you sign up for every Wednesday you choose to participate, not a one-time sign-up. The widget is open each Wednesday until midnight PST. If you miss this week's WUW, don't worry! You can always join us next week.

Grab any one of the blog buttons below to use in your post: (Click on images for original size. Save and resize as you wish.)

Above are some samples of Jamie and Erin's cool blog buttons. L♥ve, l♥ve, l♥ve 'em.

In closing, I am not sure which version, if either or in fact both versions, of What's Up Wednesday was the birth, but I like them both.  If I am completely wrong about the genesis of What's Up Wednesday please set me straight.

Finally, I am a very busy person and I want to start a blog link / blog hop for What's Up Wednesday.  I was thinking about sharing one thing (goal) that's up for your week, and then the next week reporting on your progress and setting a new goal (or extending the old one) and keep it going on a rolling Wednesday basis.  What do you think?  I need HELP.
