What's Up Wednesday — 2016 Home Decor Color Trends

Wednesday, December 30, 2015

Every year around this time, paint companies and designers release color palettes for upcoming trends.  Yes, having a neutral color palette for big ticket items like countertops, floors, and large furniture makes sense. However, we can all follow current color trends by adding affordable accents like: throw pillows, paint, lampshades, and lots of fun accessories.

Here is a sample of Behr paint's 2016 color trends in action .  I l♥ve how they take the color swatches and bring them to life in a dining room setting  (see picture below) — truly amazing!!!!!

Above is Pantone's 2016 Color Report for Spring 2016.  Their report says that colors for the upcoming Spring season transcend cultural and gender norms.  Vivid brights give way to excitement and optimism, though quiet stability prevails in this seasons palette.  What can I say folks, I didn't make this up it's straight from the Pantone website.

Here is a wonderful example of  the aforementioned color palette in lighting trends.  I like how the colors and different shapes make for a visually interesting arrangement.

Spirituality Sunday — Happy 4th Sunday of Advent

Sunday, December 20, 2015

Fourth Week of Advent

Today we again light the candles of hopelove, and joy, and the fourth PURPLE candle, the candle of peace. Christ is the Prince of peace, come to reconcile us with God and others. Christ helps us to see that peace is possible.

Advent 4th Sunday

Only with an intense desire for the coming of Jesus Christ can we begin to merit His spiritual gifts. We are reminded, during these four weeks of Advent of the time during which the world was without Jesus. To this we implore Him to hasten His coming.

In the reading which is the Gospel reading of today's liturgy the Angel announces that Mary will give birth so a son. After the announcement, the angel enters into a short song of praise of Jesus and in the process quotes from Samuel, (the promise of the eternal kingdom of David.) It is He (Jesus) who is the one who will rule.

He who did not spare His own son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things?

Spiritual Gifts Of The Son

The gift of forgiveness: Eph 1.7

The gift of reconciliation: Ro. 5:10-11

The gift of new birth: Jn. 3:3; 1 Pe. 1:3

The gift of new life in the Spirit: Jn. 7:37-39; Ro. 8:9-11

The gift of adoption: Gal. 4:5; Ro. 8:15

The gift of an eternal inheritance: Col. 1:12; 1 Pt. 1:4; Eph. 1:11

The gift of citizenship in Christ's kingdom:  Phil. 3:20; Col. 1:13

Sybaris Bistro Review (Yelp Link)

Saturday, December 19, 2015

Remember I said I was excited about going to Sybaris Bistro for dinner on my birthday.  I promised my readers that I'd review the restaurant afterwards.  Well, here (below) is  a copy of the review (and a link to) what I posted on Yelp.

I am sincerely disappointed that I have to write a two star review about Sybaris Bistro. Yesterday (12/18) my husband took me to Sybaris for my 50th birthday.  I was looking forward to it all week after looking at their menu and reading many five star reviews.

We arrived at the restaurant and stood in the lobby a good 15 minutes (there was no host/hostess) before anyone gave us the courtesy of acknowledging our presence.
After greeting us they did show us to a nice fireside table.

For the prices at Sybaris Bistro I expected to have friendlier, more attentive service. Therefore, rather than go on ad infinitum I will do a pro and con list and then summarize.

PROS
• The appetizer (empanadas) were good — nice and flakey.

• The main courses — I had the Roasted Neck Chicken and my husband had the Grilled Big
Pork Chip and both were prepared and presented well.  Both dishes were excellent!

• The tables in the restaurant were spread out nicely for privacy — the noise level was low
   Which was nice.

• Again, nice fireside tables available.

CONS
• No host/hostess — it took 15> minutes to be acknowledged.

• Unfriendly service.

• Untimely / inexperienced service
♦ Saw the server about 3 times during the whole meal.
♦ We were never offered more bread/butter.
♦ Coffee/wine/water were left unattended and not refilled timely.
♦ Staff did not anticipate our needs like you would expect at a restaurant charging these
        prices.
♦ Staff did not present the menu well, nor did they offer paring suggestions or talk about
       fresh / local ingredients.
♦ Staff did not mention one thing about the wine / drink / dessert menus.
♦ There were only 2 people in our party and the server didn't know who got which plate
(this clearly shows lack of attention to detail).

• To go to the unisex (tacky) bathroom you had to walk to the back of the restaurant and
   through the messy prep station.

• The bathroom itself was dirty and not well kept and decor was hideous.

•  The restaurant was very sparsely decorated.  The tables had one clear tea light and some
sort of ugly rock for decoration / ambience.

• They ran out of steelhead and creme brulee before 7:30 pm.

• The dessert menu was very limited (no chocolate items at all and no creme burlee).

In summary, I feel the cons far outweighed a good appetizer and main course.  Food alone does not a make a 5 star experience make.  We will probably not be going back there, nor would we recommend the restaurant to friend and/or family.

Sepia Saturday — Angels

Saturday, December 19, 2015

What can I say I l♥ve angels and cherubs.   I found so many references to angels I thought given the season they would be a perfect addition to my
segments.

Oh, one more picture that I didn't post in my collage.  This weeping angle was so moving to me I had to post it separately from the collage. Isn't she beautiful?
